Tazria-Metzorah
If a woman gives birth to a baby boy she becomes Tameh for 7 days. On the 8th day the Baby gets a bris Milah. She is not allowed to touch anything rendered “Kadosh” or enter the Bais Hamikdash for 33 days.
When she gives birth to a baby girl, she becomes Tameh for 14 days and cannot touch anything rendered Kadosh or enter the Bais Hamikdash for 66 days.
When the Tameh days are complete she purifies herself and brings a Karban.
The pesukim delve into the details of a person that suspects he has tzaraas on his skin and goes to a kohen. The Kohen looks for white or pink skin, depth, white hairs and other details to determine if the person is Tameh or not. If the Kohen is not sure, then the person has to quarantine outside the camp for 7 days and come back to the Kohen to determine if he has Tzaraas.
The Tzaraas can be white or reddish white on the skin.
White spots are not Tzaraas.
Tzaraas on clothing is deep green or deep red. The Kohen quarantines the garment for 7 days and washes it. If it remains with Tzaraas it gets burned. If it goes away it should be washed again and becomes Tahor.
When a person is deemed ready to be purified from Tzaraas he takes 2 live Tahor birds, Mayim Chayim (spring water) in an earthen vessel, cedar wood, a scarlet colored string, and a hyssop branch. 1 bird is slaughtered and the other bird and items are dipped in the blood and sprinkled on the Metzora 7 times. He washes his clothes, shaves off all hair and facial hair and immerses in a Mikvah. He may enter the camp but has to remain outside of his tent for 7 days. Then he must bring a Karban. The Kohen takes some of the blood of the Karban (as well as some oil) and puts it on the man’s ear, thumb and big toe. He puts remaining oil on the man’s head.
Tzaraas can also be on a house, dark green or dark red. If a person suspects Tzaraas on his house he needs to take everything out of the house. The Kohen quarantines it for 7 days. If the Tzaraas doesn’t go away they take away the stones of the house with the Tzaraas on them to a place for Tameh things and replace them with new stones. If the Tzaraas comes back then the house needs to be demolished. If the Tzaraas went away then the house can be purified.
There are other forms of Tumah that a man and women can get from bodily discharges. Anything or anyone that he or she touches becomes Tameh and the one that is Tameh requires a mikvah to purify themselves.
